In the world of education, it’s not uncommon to find ourselves stuck in a routine. Today, I want to share an experience from my classroom that beautifully illustrates the power of micro projects as catalysts for larger, more substantial projects.

The Karaoke Review: A Prelude to Innovation

In an effort to shake things up and breathe new life into our review sessions, we embarked on what I dubbed the “Karaoke Review.” The concept was simple yet unconventional: students would transform the content of our current lessons into creative, catchy lyrics to the tune of popular songs. Armed with nothing but their notes, a Chromebook and a sprinkle of creativity, they were tasked with rewriting songs to reflect their understanding of the material. Then, in a moment of bravery and expression, they would perform their compositions in front of the class.

They analyzed, evaluated, and created—elevating a simple memorization task to the highest levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Reflecting on the day’s activity, the students’ feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing a desire to integrate this form of learning into future lessons. Their excitement was palpable, and it was then that I realized we had stumbled upon something special.
