Student-Centered Learning

In the realm of Project-Based Learning, students don’t simply follow; they pioneer. They’re not walking predefined paths but charting their own courses and discovering terrains filled with challenges and insights.

Your Imagination is Your Limit

A student’s natural ability is no longer a limiting factor in how they express their understanding of the content. The infusion of AI into projects elevates the pieces and parts to professional heights that bring greater pride to the process.

Flipped Learning

My face to face time with students is spent working with students. Students engage with instructional material online and at their own pace. My goal is to be able to dedicate as much individual time to students to help them master and internalize the content.

Project-based Learning

Student get to explore content in ways that resonate with their interests and passions. This student-centered approach helps students to internalize and building meaningful content to what they are learning. They don’t just come to class, they come to discover.

Passion + Content + AI = Endless Possibilities

One of the first units my 8th graders begin the year with is “European Exploration of the Americas.” I had a student that was super passionate about Marvel. She new the characters and their backstories inside and out. When she began to look at the various European explorers, she noticed the commonalities between each explorer and particular Marvel characters. She immediately knew that she wanted to do a “What If” style of project in which she combined her passion with the content. Her project didn’t stop with the end of the unit. When AI became more accessible, she took her original drawings and allowed Midjourney to enhance what she had designed to look even more realistic. This evolution of what is possible, is now able to enhance the visions students have when thinking about combining their passions with content.

Flipped Classroom

I wanted to gain back time with my students and make the most of my face-to-face time with students. By flipping my class, I am able to walk alongside my students as they engage with the content, help them process, and provide more hands-on learning opportunities for them. Students feel empowered and in control of the learning, thus building their independence as learners. They take more ownership of the process, and they are able to work at a pace that meets their needs.

Modern Project-based Learning

At the heart of my classroom is the word passion. As a PBL teacher, I knew that my approach to PBL was different than what I had read about online, and I knew that the most authentic, meaningful approach to PBL had to include passion. So I redefined PBL: “The act of using a project to develop hands-on engagement where students, fueled by their curiosity and passion, work collaboratively to explore, absorb, and internalize classroom content beyond rote memorization.” Providing students with opportunities to apply their understanding of content in meaningful ways, enables them to internalize and build meaning to what they are learning.
